Romeo and Juliet as you have never seen it……..
Play On and LYT Productions produced their re-imagined telling of Romeo and Juliet through the eyes of a young woman who has never forgotten the boy she fell in love with. Our Newhaven based company of young actors blended Shakespeare’s original text with their own words at The Fort, Newhaven in July this year and brought you a Romeo and Juliet as has have never seen it before. The play was set against the back drop of West Beach’s amusement arcade where love, longing and loss are played out in the heat of the summer sun and sea air.
We were thrilled to work with Co-artistic Director Sarah May who re-imagined Shakespeare’s classic tale with our company of young actors. We collaborated with choreographer and movement director Anna Alvarez who brought her imagination and creativity to the physical world of Romeo and Juliet. Whilst Intimacy Director Rose Ryan supported our young lovers in those joyful and heart-breaking moments.
LYT Productions lead on production design with costumes by Soufriere Etherington, light and sound by Naomi Aknai, Samantha Tugwell and Marvina Beries.
